Client Needs:

  1. Raise the level of plant safety
  2. Reduce the physical burden on staff
  3. Increase plant output

Solution Proposed: New system that would allow all actions to happen on ground level, eliminate the need for a forklift and speed up the process for each batch

Products Used: Marion 60 Cubic Foot Paddle Mixer, Piab Pneumatic Conveyor, Kason Vibratory Sifter

Result: Safety goals achieved, higher staff morale, batch processing time reduced by 70% while improving quality of final product

“Ian is great to work with and we get great support from Annik, Marion and Kason.”

Patrick Browne / Biovation Labs

Biovation is a contract packaging company whose mission is to manufacture and supply the highest quality of product for their clients. They work with hundreds of clients to mix, encapsulate and package medicine, vitamins supplements and other products.

Biovation was looking to increase the safety in the plant and reduce the physical burden on their staff. Each mix was requiring manual sifting, then using a forklift to raise the sifted ingredients into a mixer. From start to finish including mixing time would take 4 team members and one forklift approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. The new process takes 2 team members approximately 1 hour (and no forklift!).

Kason Vibratory Sifter (drawing above) allows for the process to start on the ground level. Every mixture starts through an initial sifting that removes any foreign material and right-sizes all the ingredients before moving them to the mixer.

Piab Pneumatic Conveyor moves the material from the dump station to the mixer without any employee involvement. The ingredients remain inside of the system removing any opportunity for spillage or contamination.

Marion 60 Cubic Foot Paddle Mixer greatly expands Biovation's mixing capacity. Batches are mixed faster and more homogenously than before allowing for more batches to be finished per shift.

The system improved safety by removing the forklift and keeping all team member actions on the ground level. The risk and physical burden of climbing ladders and manually loading the mixer was also removed. Because total batch time has been shortened from 2 hours 45 minutes to 1 hour, production levels have increased dramatically.
